Ministry Opportunities

Ministry Opportunities for Service in Our Church
Acolytes: Acolytes have been assisting priests in worship for 1800 years and children have been assisting priests for 1100 years. Acolytes can be Crucifers, Servers, Banner Bearers, and help with the offering plates. Anyone, male or female, in the third grade or older can be an acolyte, including adults. Training sessions, activities, and retreats are held throughout the year. Call Camille Howle, Acolyte Master, 706-210-1133 or e-mail her at education@holycomforterchurch.org for more information.

Altar Bread: At Holy Comforter we make our own Altar Bread. This is something that families as well as individuals can do. There is always a sign-up sheet on the Information Table along with the recipe. Call the Church Office at 706-210-1133 or e-mail us at mailbox@holycomforterchurch.org for details.

Altar Guild: These persons – female or male – prepare the sanctuary for worship by setting up the altar and surrounding area. They also prepare the communion vessels for the Eucharist as well as take care of the altar linens. The Altar Guild usually works in teams of three. Interested? Call Altar Guild Chairperson Janet Byrd at 706-210-3794.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers: These persons are licensed by the Diocese to assist in the worship service in the administration of the Holy Eucharist and in other services. They can also be licensed to carry communion to shut-ins. LEMs must study for this ministry and take two examinations in order to serve. They must also attend a Lay Ministers Conference at Honey Creek once every two years. LEM meetings are held throughout the year. Questions? Call Robin Merriman (706-868-9862) or The Rev. Cynthia Taylor (706-210-1133).

Love Loaf Ministry Team: This is a ministry of welcome to all first time guests to Holy Comforter. Members of this team take a loaf of fresh bread and a welcome packet to the home of our guests, usually within 24-hours of their visit. This is low-key way to extend the hospitality of our church. The only requirement is a warm heart, friendly smile and a desire to welcome people to our church. Information on how to participate? Call the church office at 210-1133 or e-mail us at mailbox@holycomforterchurch.org.

Prayer Teams and Prayer Chain: Being a church of prayer is especially important to Holy Comforter. We have trained Prayer Teams, under the guidance of Harriet Myers. These teams are formed and trained at the supervision of the pastor. The Prayer Teams are available after communion for persons needing prayers for body, mind or spirit. The Prayer Chain is available for emergency prayer requests. Carol Kane is the coordinator for this ministry and can be reached at 706-421-0558 or 706-228-4156. You can also email Carol at cak67@comcast.net - Prayer requests can also be added at the lectern at the back of the church each Sunday.

Prayer Teams: Prayer Teams are available for intercessory prayer following communion on Sundays. The two-person team is happy to pray for your needs whether they are physical, spiritual, or emotional. Privacy and confidentiality are enforced. This particular ministry requires special training and team members are selected by the pastor. Harriet Myers is the Prayer Team Convenor and can be reached at 706-738-2423. You can also email Harriet at fhmyers@knology.net .

Readers: If you have a good, public speaking voice, you may wish to consider this ministry. Readers are those persons (youth or adult) who read the appointed lessons during the worship service and lead the congregation in the psalms. Some training may be necessary, depending on previous public speaking experience. Interested? Call The Rev. Cynthia Taylor (706-210-1133) or e-mail her at pastor@holycomforterchurch.org.

Refreshments: Parishioners are asked to help with the refreshments served after each service. This doesn’t have to be gourmet catering, just some snacks to compliment the fellowship after church. Call the church office at 706-210-1133.

Ushers and Greeters: These are the first people you meet as you come into the church. Greeters are responsible for welcoming people to our church, especially first time guests. They are stationed outside the front door by our Guest Welcome Table, help with nametags, the Guest Register, as well as directions and orientation to Holy Comforter as may be needed. Ushers assist with the service by distributing bulletins, helping with the offertory collection and assisting people with seating as well as other duties. They should also help connect first time visitors with other parishioners who can assist them with the service, if necessary. The main requirements for these ministries are a heart that can welcome others into our church and a warm smile. Call the Usher and Greeter Captain Sharon Cormier (803-279-2205) or Angie Brown (803-279-6832 or angieb789@comcast.net) for more information.

Sunday School Greeters: These are responsible for welcoming people to the church right before the Sunday School hour and assist first time guests in finding their classes. They are stationed outside the front door by our Guest Welcome Table, help with nametags, the Guest Register, as well as directions and orientation to Holy Comforter as may be needed. Call the church office (706-210-1133) for more information or e-mail us at mailbox@holycomforterchurch.org.

Choir 1 | Ministry Opportunities
Music Program: Our Music Director, Marilynn Bellmann, coordinates our worship music and leads our choir. We use a wide range of music from contemporary songs to traditional hymns. And we make use of the vast area of talent in our church from brass and wind instrumentalists to jazz sax and bass as well as percussion and others. Many of Marilynn’s voice students supplement the choir as guest soloists. Questions? Call Marilynn at 706-496-3370.

HandsofComfort1 | Ministry Opportunities
Hands of Comfort: Prayer Shawl Ministry: Our mission is to provide comfort, hope and healing to those who most need a reminder of God's love for them through the work of our hands and the prayers of our hearts. We knit and crochet shawls, lap robes, scarves, chemo caps, and other items, all the while praying for the recipient. If you know someone in need of a prayer item, or would like to participate in the ministry, please contact Julie Kane (706-228-4156) or email at julie333@comcast.net. This group meets every Tuesday 10am at Earthfare on Furys Ferry Rd. - directions: http://www.earthfare.com/OurStores/Augusta.aspx
