Who Are We?

The Holy Comforter Story
Who R We Pic 1 | Who Are We?
The name for our new parish was selected by people both within and without the church. Holy Comforter is an older name for the Holy Spirit. We are emphasizing this aspect of God the Holy Spirit to welcome and comfort those who have felt alienated from the church, as well as those who have never had a church home. The guiding biblical foundation for Holy Comforter is Ephesians 2:19: "You are no longer strangers and sojourners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God". Our mission is to provide the kind of radical hospitality that enables all of us who are strangers and sojourners to become part of God's household.

In 1999, under the pastoral leadership of The Reverend Dr. Cynthia (Cindy) Taylor, small groups of interested supporters met to get acquainted, worship, and plan for the birth of this new church. Their promise of a warm welcome to singles and families and a place to experience the comfort and love of Christ has become a reality at the Church of the Holy Comforter. We are the first new Episcopal Church in the area in over 40 years.

We have grown from a small group of thirty to a parish of several hundred. We are a diverse congregation and welcome all those seeking God. We are a home for those who have questions and even doubts about Christianity, as well as those who have given themselves to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our worship is in the style of the ancient Anglican tradition which centers itself around Holy Scripture, Prayer, Holy Communion, and Healing. Our music is a blend of the best of contemporary music and beloved hymns. We celebrate the presence of Jesus Christ in our lives, in our community and in the world.

Holy Comforter temporarily worshipped at the Savannah Rapids Pavilion.

On December 21, 2008 Holy Comforter moved into our new Parish Hall at 473 Fury's Ferry Road, Martinez, GA. Regular services are held on Sunday mornings at 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM, with Christian Education at 9:30 AM (from September through May). A nursery is provided for the 10:30 service.

You have an open invitation to visit - or to become a part of - this exciting congregation.
